Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4/Day
If there is one cookbook I wish I had discovered prior to college, it is definitely Leanne Brown's Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4/Day. Alas, it did not exist until 2013, and it was not actually written with a college audience in mind. Instead it was created out of the much more noble goal of helping people on food stamps, who receive the equivalent of $4/day for food, to eat more healthy and tasty meals.
Brown provides tons of tasty and quick meal ideas with truly beautiful accompanying photos. Because meat is pricey, nearly all the recipes are vegetarian (which, as a flexitarian, I love). When it comes to her charitable ambitions, Brown is the real deal. She's giving out pdf's of her book for free on her website, and if you want more than a pdf, you can purchase the printed book here, with the added bonus that for each book sold, Brown will donate a book to someone who needs it.
Regardless of whether you are a beginner learning basics of healthy cooking, or just a busy person on a tight budget, this cookbook is for you. It's beautiful, helpful, and supports a worthy cause - an all-around fantastic creation.
