EatPastry: The Best Vegan Cookie Dough

EatPastry: The Best Vegan Cookie Dough

Holiday time can be tricky for those who wish to minimize their consumption of animal products. Vegetarian alternatives to holiday favorites do not often appeal to a crowd of omnivores, and let's not even get started with most vegan options. Or actually, let's. Because I've discovered a vegan alternative to a homemade favorite - chocolate chip cookies - that is so good, even your most butter-and-egg-loving family members will crave them (and I say this as a certified butter fanatic). Behold EatPastry, the delectable vegan cookie dough that comes in five fantastic flavors, including a gluten-free version of the chocolate chip.

I discovered EatPastry when I fortuitously became a neighbor of the delightful duo behind the company: business (and life) partners Jessie Williams and Alfredo Elias. These two are about as adorable, creative, and ethically-minded as you might imagine two in-love pastry chefs on a vegan mission to be. Their products reflect their commitment to ethical eating and their devotion to delicious desserts. Had I never met them, it's likely I would not have ventured into the world of vegan cookie dough. But now that I know that delicious, oven-fresh, animal-product-free cookies are just a Whole Foods trip away, I am completely hooked.

My favorite flavor is hands down the chocolate chip, which I would never peg as vegan if someone did not tell me as much. When making a batch, I struggle to even wait the 10 minutes needed to transform them from gooey dough dollops to crispy cookie delights. Fortunately, since they are egg-free, it is totally acceptable to snack on the dough while waiting for a batch to bake (this offsets the torture imposed by the fresh cookie smell wafting from the oven).

This holiday season, I'll be stocking up on EatPastry for three reasons: 1. Holidays are better with home-baked goods, 2. Pre-made dough eliminates the need to bake from scratch, and 3. Whenever I can reduce my consumption of animal products without sacrificing taste, I am 100% on board. If at this point you are craving EatPastry as much as I am, head to your nearest Whole Foods and grab a tub - you won't be disappointed.
